Welcome to the Pre-K program at West Jackson Elementary School! Our goal is to provide our Pre-K students with a clean, safe, healthy, and developmentally appropriate environment where they are encouraged to develop a lifelong love for learning.
Our classroom focuses on encouraging children's cognitive, social, emotional, critical thinking, and physical skills. Children are active learners and we focus on purposeful play activities reinforcing reading, math, art, dramatic play, and much much more. The Pre-K programs allows your child an extra year to grow and learn focusing on the child's interest. We look forward to a great year in Pre-K.

Welcome to Kindergarten at West Jackson Elementary School. Kindergarten provides students with the first learning experiences in language development, number concepts, creative skills, and social and physical growth. Our kindergarten students are introduced to basic reading skills through guided reading, literacy centers, and read alouds. In math, students work in small groups learning concepts such as counting, shapes, and problem solving skills. We work hard to provide our students with an engaging, enriching, and positive learning environment.

Welcome to First Grade. First grade is all about love of one another, a love for learning, and building a classroom community that will learn and thrive. A classroom community refers to the level of respect and kindness that your students show to each other. Here is where our students come together as a class to work towards the common goal of learning. We want our students to feel valued and connected to the teachers and to other students in the class. This grade is a very important time to lay the foundation for the years ahead and together we will strive to make this a successful learning experience.

Welcome to 2nd Grade! We are a team of enthusiastic educators, striving to create an engaging yet structured classroom environment. Our instruction is student-focused and we work to build connections with students in order to know their needs and interests. We learn so many important math and reading skills that help set the foundations for success at the 2nd grade level and beyond. We strive to help our students reach all of their academic and personal goals.

Welcome to 3rd Grade! Some things we will explore this year include Regions of Georgia, Branches of Government, Native Americans and the European Explorers. Third Grade is also the year for multiplication mastery, 3-digit addition and subtraction fluency, and foundation of fractions. We will continue to grow into stronger readers and writers as we discover strategies to improve our skills and enhance our love of literacy. Third grade is where the transition of “learning to read” changes to “reading to learn”. We will build our classroom community using the teachings from our Social Emotional Learning program - The 7 Mindsets. In third grade, EVERYTHING is POSSIBLE!!

In Specials classes at WJES, students have the opportunity to learn, play, create, and grow through Art, Music, PE, Technology, Media Art, and STEAM. Our goal is for every student to connect their learning to unique, hands-on experiences, engage with our school and local community, and to establish themselves as critical thinkers, good communicators, and strong collaborators. Our range of special area classes gives every student a place to show us exactly how special they are, and we hope that every student leaves our classrooms curious and energized for learning any subject.

This program seeks to support students in gaining English language proficiency (ELP) in the following domains: listening, speaking, reading, writing, and comprehension. The goal is to provide students with the opportunity to develop the academic language skills needed in their content classes as well as supporting them socially at school and outside of school. As students make gains in developing their ELP, their sense of self-efficacy increases paving the way for academic success.
